Andrea Freeman, PhD

My geoarchaeology laboratory is located on the 9th floor of the Earth Sciences building.  It was developed with start-up funds and with funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Institutional Infrastructure Partnership Program.  Over the years dozens of undergraduate and graduate students have been trained in a variety of geoarchaeological techniques, including basic soil and sedimentary analyses, stable isotopic composition of soils, phytolith analyses, geochemistry of ethnographic pottery, and geospatial tools. 

The principal focus of my own research involves the reconstruction of landscapes from prehistoric archaeological sites; however, my lab is also home to my students as well as those of other advisors, pre-doctoral researchers from the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, as well as undergraduate trainees in the Earth Sciences program, the Environmental Sciences program, the Department of Geography, and the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology.
